Women’s Support Worker (Refuge Service)

Reporting to the Deputy Refuge Manager this role involves:
 
  • Delivery of support services to women in the refuge service in one-to-one and group settings.
  • Advocacy work and court accompaniment with women in the refuge service.
  • Ensuring best practice in the delivery of services to women in the refuge.
This is a full time role; applicants are required to work a shift rota including weekends and public holidays.
 
Salary: €33,367.37 - €45,676.90 (under review and may be subject to the 2009 public sector pay cut).
 
The ideal candidate will have:
 
    • 2 years’ experience working in a support role in the area of domestic/gender based violence
    • A clear understanding of Domestic Violence as a gender-based crime and understanding of the impacts it has on women and children’s lives
    • Ability to work in a non-judgmental, proactive, calm manner
    • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
    • Computer skills with competence in using email, internet and MS Office
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
A qualification in a related field and experience working with people with substance abuse or mental health difficulties is desirable.
 
Night Support Worker (Refuge Service)
 
Reporting to the Deputy Refuge Manager this role involves:
 
  • Responding appropriately to services users’ needs over night
  • Admitting and welcoming women and children to the refuge service and providing support/information as required
  • Ensuring all telephone calls are answered during the night shift
  • Implementing the over-night security policy.
This role involves working night shifts between the hours of 10pm and 8am. Actual shift structure is to be finalised and will be communicated to shortlisted applicants at interview stage.
 
The salary for the position will be according to HSE scales and will be communicated to shortlisted applicants at interview stage.
 
The ideal candidate will have:
 
  • Previous experience working in a support role in the area of domestic/gender based violence or homelessness

Refuge Housekeeper/Cleaning Supervisor
 
Reporting to the Refuge Services Manager or other senior staff members, this role involves:
 
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness in the refuge service
  • Cleaning and preparation of units when vacated
  • Ensuring all breakages, repairs, etc are reported in a timely manner and dealt with appropriately
  • Management of cleaners and maintenance workers.
This is a part time role, 3.5 hours per morning, Monday to Friday.
 
Salary for part time hours will be on a scale ranging from €264.46 to €293.51 weekly (HSE Cleaner’s scale).
 
The ideal candidate will have:
 
  • 2 years’ experience in a housekeeping/cleaning role with some supervisory responsibility
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
Experience working in a homeless organisation or similar setting together with an understanding of the difficulties for women out of home due to domestic violence is desirable.
